Are Pet Haven cats litter trained?
Most of our cats are litter trained. If the cat has an accident during the transition into your home, put the waste into the litter box so the cat can make the association with where it should be using the restroom. We recommend using a clumping litter and placing the litter box in the same room that you are introducing the cat. We feed the cats Kirkland and Purina brands, so if you plan to feed them another brand please remember that it may take a few days for their stomach to adjust.
How can I help my cat adapt to her new home?
It may be helpful to read this article on introducing your cat to a new house before the adoption. You'll be able to tell that the cat feels comfortable and safe when the tail is lifted and their pupils are not larger than normal. We also send our cats off with a knitted towel to be put in their sleeping area since it will have a smell that is familiar to them.
Should I let my cat roam free outside?
Each person must make this decision on an individual basis. Although you may want to let your cat out, many cats that come through our shelter had collars, but no tag. Here are some links that may help you make the decision: Should You Let Your Cats Go Outside? and 6 Reasons You Might Let Your Cat Outside.
